Making a Difficult System Easier.

Union and Corporate Disability Consulting (UCDC) exists to make navigating workplace injuries easier – for workers, unions, and employers alike.

Filling a Workplace Disability Claim Gap.

UCDC was created in response to a gap we saw firsthand: too many injured workers falling through the cracks of a complex compensation system, and too many teams- union and corporate- struggling to help them navigate it.

At the heart of our work is a simple mission:

To assist unions and corporations to effectively support injured workers through the WorkSafe BC system and the duty to accommodate process to optimize a positive outcome for all parties.

Built from Experience, Driven by Purpose.

UCDC was founded by Jason Thomas, a long-time health and safety leader, former Workers’ Compensation Board Chair, and Disability Manager for one of BC’s largest industrial unions. But Jason’s passion for this work isn’t just professional – it’s personal. Years ago, he suffered a serious workplace injury himself. That experience changed everything.

Going through the system as an injured worker opened his eyes to the confusion, fear, and frustration many employees face after an injury – and how few resources truly exist to help. It also revealed how many well-meaning union reps and corporate managers are left without the training or tools to effectively guide the process.

UCDC was built to change that.

Who We Serve.

Today, UCDC supports unions, companies, and workers across BC with services that span disability case management, WorkSafe BC claims navigation, mediation, return-to-work planning, and on-site training. Whether we’re helping a frontline worker file their first claim, training a union disability team, or guiding an HR department through accommodations, our focus is always the same: clarity, ethics, and real results.

We’re proud to offer:

  • Personalized consulting and advocacy for individual cases
  • Mediation and communication between unions, employers, and injured workers
  • One- and two-day workshops for union stewards, safety reps, and corporate leadership
  • Strategic policy reviews and claims support for companies of all sizes
